Brand Director, Penguin Random House Children’s (9-12-month FTC) – London

Penguin Random House Children’s is looking for a highly creative yet commercially conscious and digitally savvy Brand Director to lead the brand, marketing and public relations team to further develop the largest publishing division. and the most profitable of PRH UK. This is a 9-12 month FTC position to cover a period of parental leave, starting mid-December 2022.

The position of Brand Manager is a key role within our Kids Leadership Team. Working closely with our Managing Director, your talents, experience and expertise will be instrumental in helping to deliver the division’s UK and international growth plans within the world’s leading children’s publishing company.

This role reports to our Children’s Physician and leads a larger team of c. 40.

About you:

  • You will have experience developing and implementing smart and creative consumer brand strategies both online and offline, with a proven passion for building consumer-centric brands and intellectual property.
  • You’ll be able to understand, engage and retain consumers – across different audiences and interests – to get them to love and buy our books, brands and authors through physical and digital channels.
  • You will be able to spot global branding and marketing trends and emerging opportunities and clearly articulate how to apply them effectively to the publishing world.
  • You will be able to provide inspirational leadership to an award-winning brand, marketing and public relations team, enabling them to achieve their own business goals and personal goals.
  • You like big ideas, but you are goal-oriented. Be able to strategically and creatively broaden the thinking of yourself, your brand, marketing and public relations team and the wider business.
  • You will have a real enthusiasm for team leadership and a proven track record in supporting and developing an inclusive and high performing team.

Main responsibilities:

  • Develop and lead global consumer brand strategies for Ladybird and Puffin consumer brands and major author brands.
  • Lead and help execute digital brand strategies for our consumer brands and authors, including briefing and managing key strategic and creative agencies.
  • Lead, manage and mentor the brand, marketing and public relations team in developing, planning and implementing all aspects of our consumer marketing and public relations campaigns for our books, brands and our authors.
  • Lead the Owned Brands team, responsible for the management and growth of our wholly owned brands (Spot, Peter Rabbit and The Snowman) with a focus on global growth.
  • Work closely with our Penguin Ventures team to contribute – if necessary – to their own strategic growth plans.
  • Liaise closely with peers and company-wide forums to ensure the “voice of the kids division” is heard and carries relevant weight.
  • Support the General Manager by being a key member of the division leadership team.
  • Work closely with other department heads, e.g. editorial, sales, rights, to achieve key divisional strategic goals.
  • Support the Consumer Insight team in helping to target and understand consumers (parents, teachers, children, grandparents, educators) within the Children’s Division.
  • Manage overall brand, marketing and public relations budgets.
  • Create relevant and measurable KPIs for teams.
