Killian Wells, CEO of Fragrance House Xyrena, shares the joy he finds in his corner of the internet

At Mozilla, we’re the first to admit that the internet isn’t perfect, but we’re also quick to point out that the internet is damn magical. The Internet opens doors and opportunities, allows people to connect with others, and allows everyone to find their place – their corners of the Internet. We all have a story on the internet worth sharing. In My Corner of the Internet, we talk to people about the online spaces they never tire of, what we should save to Pocket to read later, and the sites and forums that shaped them.

With Pride celebrations happening throughout June, this month we’re featuring LGBTQ+ leaders as part of our My Corner of the Internet series. In the latest episode, Killian Wells, CEO of award-winning fragrance house Xyrena, talks about his love for nerd culture, launches a beauty brand website and pockets his favorite blogs.

What is your favorite corner of the internet?

I follow Instagram a lot and love retro accounts like @insta80s90s, @80_deco, @popculturedmemes and @onlyninetieskidsknow.

What’s an internet deep dive you can’t wait to get back into?

A few times a year I fall down a rabbit hole on the internet looking for synths/patches used on popular songs, especially by my favorite producers, like Max Martin and Timbaland.

Which tab in your browser do you still regret closing?

As a movie buff, I’m on IMDb several times a day, especially when watching a movie or show and need to know where I saw an actor that looks familiar. I’m there so often that I’ve developed the useless talent of being able to name the year a film was released and its distributor.

Who is an LGBTQ+ person with a strong online presence who is a role model for you?

I’m a huge Jeremy Scott fan. I love her design aesthetic so much! I also saw his documentary a few years ago and I really identify with his story in many ways.

What can’t you stop talking about on the internet right now?

We just launched a brand new site for Xyrena (xyrena.com), so I’m really excited about it. I’m quite obsessed with retro design.

What was the first online community you got involved with?

I’m a huge pop culture nerd and collect Funko Pops (ad icons are my favorite), so as a teenager I connected with other funatics. My first business was actually selling Wacky Wobblers online and I had the chance to meet Funko founder Mike Becker and visit one of their original headquarters.

What articles and videos are in your pocket waiting to be read/watched right now?

I keep my favorite blogs in my pocket, like lunchmeatvhs.com and alternativemovieposters.com

If you could create your own corner of the Internet, what would it look like?

It already exists on xyrena.com
