Why the New Orleans Saints will win

Where are the guys? Where is the talent in Atlanta?

It’s an interesting mix of players full of youth and potential, but it can take a little time.

There won’t be much Falcon running play to worry about when Marcus Mariota doesn’t get off the ground, and the defense that allowed the fourth-most points in the NFL now gets a revamped Saint offense that added a – maybe – healthy Michael Thomas and Chris Olave at the receiving corps.

The defense has the secondary to put down the Falcon’s mediocre receivers — at least until Drake London kicks in — and again, there’s not enough running play to make up for that. However …

Why the Atlanta Falcons will win

Don’t be surprised if Mariota is dangerous.

He has the experience and ability to at least keep the chains moving, and he’s going to have to pull a few rabbits out of the hat to get things done.

On the other side, the Falcons need to rush the passes right away. Saint’s attacking front is questionable at the start of the season – good, but not amazing – and the running game might not be there if Jameis Winston doesn’t find ways to diffuse the passing game at close range.

Atlanta isn’t really going to have much of a pass rush.

New Orleans may not be that flashy, but they’ll be effective enough offensively to go along with a bad defense that will hammer everything Atlanta is trying to do in the air.

The Falcons will have some good times helped by three interceptions, but the offense won’t do enough to capitalize on the chances.
