The Egerton House Hotel in London features an Alice in Wonderland-themed tea party, plus one for your pooch
The Egerton House Hotel is a gem of a property located in the Knightsbridge district of London, a short walk from major attractions such as the Victoria & Albert Museum and Harrods. The V&A Museum is currently hosting a formidable exhibition showcasing the creation and evolution of Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland. The exhibit includes everything you can think of. You can see artwork from the first published edition, watch scenes from the 2015 “Alice” production at the Royal National Theater, and participate in an Alice-inspired online sewing workshop. (Free museum tickets are included with your hotel stay). Guests of the Egerton can extend the fun with an Alice-themed picnic that includes ‘Cheshire Cat’ tea sandwiches, homemade ‘White Rabbit’ fruit and plain scones, cakes and pastries. Exquisite “Alice” and a selection of teas.
But my favorite way to enjoy an Alice themed meal is with the hotel’s hatter tea. Sit in the Egerton’s cozy dining room and indulge yourself in three levels of delicacies. Tea includes a tasty selection of freshly cut sandwiches, including H. Forman’s smoked salmon, free-range egg salad, roast Blythburgh ham and English mustard, as well as cucumber and cream cheese. Several cakes, as well as homemade scones served with sour cream and Devonshire jam are also on the menu. Customers can choose from a wide selection of teas. But to really enjoy that feeling of falling through the rabbit hole, it is advisable to treat yourself to a glass or two of champagne, which is included.
Younger guests will be able to enjoy the “White Rabbit” afternoon tea, specially designed for children under 12. This tea includes delicious sandwiches and white rabbit scones, as well as hot chocolate and a refreshing ‘Drink Me’ mocktail. Highlights include the hotel’s signature Six O’Clock Brownie, a rich chocolate and orange brownie, and a brioche-filled ice cream sandwich.
And if you are traveling with your beloved dog, he will be delighted to taste the hotel’s “Doggie Tea”, served in the dining room. This special afternoon tea includes a selection of goodies for everyone, like chicken and beef meatloaf, homemade dog biscuits and dog ice cream. Now all your loved ones can enjoy a good tea together.
The Egerton House Hotel is a great place to stop for an afternoon refreshment, but an even better place to stay. The property itself is steeped in history and dates back to 1843. The Egerton is housed in a stately red brick Victorian townhouse overlooking private gardens. This intimate property makes guests feel like they are staying in a beautiful private home, rather than a hotel. The bedrooms have classic British touches and feature luxurious linens and original artwork. And if you want to keep the theme, you can indulge in the V&A sequel, which feels a lot like stepping back in time. The separate living room has floor-level patio doors that open onto the private outdoor garden terrace, where guests can spend their day surrounded by the lovely Egerton Gardens.
Whether you are coming for tea or staying for a while, the Egerton House Hotel is guaranteed to provide you with a unique and uniquely British experience.
